What Does Facelift Address?
Facelift is considered to be the gold standard in facial rejuvenation because it addresses several aging concerns at once, including:
- Loose, saggy skin on the middle and lower facial regions
- Wrinkles, fine lines and creases on the middle and lower facial areas
- Displaced or fallen fat that makes the cheeks look sunken or hollow
- Jowls
- Loss of healthy skin tone
- Fatty deposits underneath the chin and jawline
- Cords or bands on the neck
Every facelift begins with a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Kordestani. Rather than just evaluating the middle and lower facial regions (the areas facelift focuses on), he will consider your entire facial appearance, including the eye area, forehead and neck, to create a plan that ensures facial harmony is maintained and natural-looking results are achieved. If appropriate, he may recommend combining facelift with additional procedures, such as eyelid surgery, neck lift, Botox or a skin resurfacing treatment. Rest assured that your facial rejuvenation treatment will be tailored to your unique needs and goals.
Procedure Details
Facelift is normally performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. There are several techniques that can be used for facelift. The two most common are:
SMAS.
This method involves tightening the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) layer of tissue and elevating it higher on the face. Excess skin is excised while the remaining skin is re-draped over the facial tissues. While this approach can produce successful results, it requires the skill of an experienced surgeon to avoid an “overly pulled” or “wind tunnel” look.
Deep-plane. This approach involves releasing the tethering points located in the layer below the SMAS so one continuous section of skin, fat, musculature and tissues can be lifted and tightened simultaneously. This leads to more noticeable and long-lasting rejuvenation.
The incisions for both SMAS and deep plane facelift are typically made within the hairline and below and behind the ears. Dr. Kordestani is meticulous when creating the incisions to avoid noticeable scarring. Once he is done making all of the agreed-upon modifications, he closes the incisions using sutures and places soft bandages over the treated areas.
